Term 4 Week 1

Today at Enrich I had a complete different day than the other students?
So my day started off normal.
Then we talked about sustainability.
There are 4 types of it:
1.  Economic
2.  Enviromental
3.  Social
4.  Cultural.
Then we did a rating of the most sustainable mode of transport to school.
There was walking, biking, stakeboarding, car, bus, or a horse
Walking was the best.
Then Alana, Hannah and I
taked to a bunch of old people about
how canstuction works and we told them what we did last year
and this year and we showed them what we made.
Then we handed the cans to Brenda, a worker at the Salvation Army.
Then, just before lunch we played a new Wilson game - All or Nothing.

Teacher Comment

Hi Bede.
Your group made great progress with your proposal for mosaics to be added to Wachner Place.  I’m pleased to see you have got your ideas sorted for what you would like to include in your mosaic - great organisation by you!  I know you were just as disgusted at me watching the clip on the top 10 most polluted cities in the world.  Clean air is something we take for granted here in NZ, but as we discussed, we all have to share that air but the solution for putting a stop to air pollution is a puzzling one.  Great to see you spending your lunch time on your idea of creating a gaming app - I look forward to seeing this progress!  Well done on a busy day Bede!  Katie.

Physics...

Today at Enrich we did wonderful things.  We had 3 new high interest stations to pick from:  Physics, Fibonnacci numbers and 3D drawing.  I chose physics.  We made parachutes for physics today.  We had to construct the parachute so that it was the same as each others, but the only difference was the material we used.  We were wanting to find out which material would make the best parachute for an egg to travel in.  I worked with Caleb and we used flannelette material.  The rest of the parachute was made with:
- Our choice of material
- Polystirine cup
- 4 strings which measured 50cm each
- Bamboo skewers (to make holes in the cups)
We named our egg "Double-head Donut".  Our parachute floated to the ground, but the force of the egg hitting the groud meant we had a few cracks in our egg.  We decided that the best material for a parachute was not too stiff, but also not too light.  Next week, we get to design our own parachutes - custom made - and we will launch them from the same place.  I think next time I will have skewers at the top of the cup so that the egg won't come out, as well as some tissues so it is a softer landing for the egg.  Here are our photos:

Enrich Term 3 Week 3

Today at Enrich we did wonderful things including Chess, Enviroment, and Tessellations.  Tessellations you heard from one of my Blogs it's no gaps and no overlaps.  It's quite challenging but when your finished it off you'll be proud.  My tessellation is birds it's black and brown with blue and green eyes. I like doing tessellations even though they are quite hard.  From Bede @ Enrich. : )

Tesselations ?

I can tell, you have no idea what a Tesselation is.  Well a Tesselation is a mathmatical problem with no gaps or overlaps.  It's harder than meets the eye sometimes you just have to do some patterns then you  you find something ,then off you go.  I've done a tesselation before and it was roosters, but it was challenging.  Adios from Bede@Enrich.  : )

Wednesday, June 27, 2012

Today is the last day of Enrich for this term.  We started with a Wilson game - the Hoop Game.  Youhad to work in a group of 3.  You had to hold hands and jump at the exact same time as each other.  You had to jump across the walkway and try and get your whole group in the hoop at the same time without touching the hoop.  If you didn't jump together, or if you jumped before Alana clapped, you had to go back to the beginning!  If you think it sounds simple, it's not!  Next - It was Reflection time! It comes and it goes every term and this term, we used a Sentence Starter sheet.  Most of them were easy to answer, but some of them took a bit more thinking.  Seeyou next term.  From Bede @ ILT. : )

Well this time the picture shows most of the plan for canstruction for talent develoment and we did our blue prints but blue prints are blue but why don't we call it a scale model of the front.  Here is the front of the Yellow Angry bird its just a draft but I did my best.  And we did a table for how many cans we had and we did the maths for the price and colours for the cans.  See you all next week. Talent Develoment

Today at Enrich I did 2 rounds of Talent Develoment like last week and this week we did all the maths for the angry bird, and guess what had to  do  all maths over again! The Maths group did some talking and the maths group decied we would do the maths all over again.  So it use to be 175cm height for the angry bird so we drop it by 55cm so now its 120cm. Well we did it all over again so it was a lot easier so now we have all the  mesurements now.  I really like maths because it fun at my home school, but its tricky here at Enrich.  Well Adios until next week.  From Bede at Enrich@ILT.

Talent Develoment

Today at enrich I did Talent Develoment and if you think I was tricking you I'm not! We didn't do passion time.  Well at Talent Develoment I did maths and today was when it got hard.  We did the model of the this Angry Bird and we did it in gogle sketch up and if it sound easy it wasn't.  It was really hard it was 100% hard and about half way through Alana told us that we could do it in active inspire and it was a lot easier, but still hard well at lunch we stopped Talent Develoment and then did must do's and picks.
Well See you next week From Bede @ ILT.

Theatre sports

Today I did Theatre Sports. It isn't a sport like cricket, rugby or soccer, it's when there are 4 players and 2 props and 2 players work as a team and think of wacky ideas for the use of their props. They need to talk like they are in character as well. At the end of each go there is a buzzer to give the other pair a turn.  You have to think quickly to come up with lots of different uses.  You have to do it, or you will lose your turn. Today we used:  2 swimming noodles, and a bath mat, dust cleaners and swimming noodles with a piece of rubber attached to them.

Learning Spanish

Today, one of the kids that goes to Enrich, his Mum came in to teach up Spanish. I learnt how to say "Hello. My name is Bede." Hola. Mi nombre es Bede! We looked at Spanish words that seemed similar to the English spelling.

We also did taster sessions for talent development. We did:
Maths - Canstruction sculptures.
Science - Making a tornado in a bottle.
Art - Working with water colours.

I spent some of my spare time today working on my Top 10 Cricketers Keynote.
