Reflection 2011

Name: Date:

Look back

What did you do?

What could you improve?

This year I have organised a clothing drive for the people of Christchurch after the earthquake. I did narrative writing for the MADE awards, and I completed chemistry this term.

I’m still not sure what an Interaction is.

I need to try and do more typing on the computer without as much teacher help.

Questions

pastedGraphic_1.pdf

What questions have you answered?

What questions do you still have?

I know how to organise a clothing drive.

I know how to write a narrative story.

I know how to use our cool science trolley.

I know how to debate.

I think outside of the square now with the help of P4C.

I want to know how to make my own cricket bat, and how to brand it under my name.

Pull it apart

What factors contributed to your learning?

What challenged you?

The computers.

Internet.

IWB

Science trolley

The chess sets

What an Interaction was.

The Must Dos and Picks in Term 3

Make connections

pastedGraphic_3.pdf

What did you learn to do better?

What sort of thinking helped you?

My time management is a lot better.

I can plan my day to include all the tasks I need to do.

P4C has helped me to think on the spot.

SCAMPER - helped me to think creatively.

Make judgements

My progress was...

I ask a lot more questions than I use to.

I can work by myself, or with others happily.

I am a lot more organised.

I am more focussed on completing tasks.

YUMMY FOOD !!!

Today at Enrich I did science and we made FOOD! First we made bread. We had to make the dough first, and leave it so that the yeast would work with the warm water and start the reaction. While that was happening, we made sherbet. We had to taste-test each ingredient: Icing Sugar, Raro, Baking Soda, Citric Acid and Tartaric Acid. We had to comment on what each one tasted like:
Icing Sugar: Sweet
Raro: Orange, Sweet and Sour
Baking Soda: Sour
Citric Acid: Sour
Tartaric Acid: Yuck!
The last thing we made was hokey pokey. We melted golden syrup and sugar until it boiled. We added baking soda, which made the mixture bubble. We put it in the freezer to set.

I have been impressed with your enthusiasm during our science talent development. You are becoming more confident to join in our discussions, as you always listen with interest to others. You clarify anything that you are unsure of by asking questions - it is so important that you continue to do this when learning new concepts. You worked well with Jordan last Thursday to make your own lava lamp. This reaction was instant and you were able to make connections from the previous week with our floating currents activity. You have worked well throughout the term on your Must Do and Picks sheet - you have made great progress with your time management. Well done Bede.

Katie.

Science - Lava Lamps

This morning for science talent development, we made lava lamps. We needed the following:

An empty bottle
Water
Cooking Oil
Food Colouring
2 x Vitamin Tablets

You fill the bottle with 1/4 water. You then add the oil until almost the top of the bottle. You wait for the water and the oil to separate. You add 12 drops of food colouring. (Dark colours were not my favourite). You add in the two vitamin tablets and wait for the bubbles to start!

The vitamin tablets have baking soda and citric acid in them - they react with the water to start the bubbling. The oil and water will not mix, so the bubbles take the food colouring up into the oil and then they sink back down to the water. This happens until all the CO2 gas is gone.

Balloon Blow!

Today we did science. We looked at experiments with baking soda and vinegar. My favourite experiment was the balloons. We poured vinegar into a empty bottle, and then using a funnel we put 3 tsp of baking soda into a balloon. We attached the balloon to the top of the bottle, then tipped the balloon upside down, so the baking soda mixed with the vinegar. The gas produced then blew up the balloon. Jordan and I took our balloon outside and we popped it with a pen! It was a really fun session today.

Science Talent Development.

Today we did two experiments they both involved ice. One was to see which one would melt the quickest we had three ice cubes each. One was raro and another one was a sugary cube and a plain water one. Raro was first Sugary was second and plain water was third. And then we did another experiment was similar but one ice cube with salt another was an ice cube with sugar and one was with nothing. Sugar was first salt was second and plain water was third, and both of my hypothesis's were wrong.

Hi Bede.
You had a busy writing session on Thursday! It was great to spend some time with you, helping you to discuss the sequence of your story, and to see you complete it! Now it is going to be all about the production side, and bringing your story to life! You spent the remainder of the day exploring Kid-Pix and the variety of ways that you could use it. Two more sessions to go until our entries are due. Keep up the great focus Bede.

Chess 2

Today at Enrich I played leader board chess instead of vs Alana I vs Katie. It was getting hard at one point but I was getting back on track. In the end it was a draw.

Hi Bede.
I was really impressed with your task commitment today. You worked so well during our first session of writing for talent development. I could see you were excited and inspired by watching the videos of the previous winners for the category we are going to enter. It gave you an idea of the high expectation involved. I look forward to seeing your creative side shine through within your writing. You settled well into the afternoon session, which was very busy. It was great to see you complete the SCAMPER activity, as well as starting on "Where in the World". Great effort today Bede - keep it up!

Teacher Comment

Bede.

It was great to see you and Jacob see your passion project through to the end. Your idea to organise a clothing drive was both thoughtful and practical. When you can see the purpose to your learning, you give it your all. I have enjoyed reading your regular blog posts about each Thursday at Enrich. You are a polite classmate and you are using your time at Enrich wisely. I am looking forward to Term 3 with you.

Katie.

Chess

Today I played a game of chess. Today I vs Alana. I had good chance to win the fist game. It went for a really long time, in the end I lost! Then I asked for a re-match. I lost the 2nd one. Alana said I have had a huge improvement with my chess. I might play her again next week!

Gifted Awareness Week

This week is Gifted Awareness Week. To me being gifted means that you are smarter (in different areas) than other kids your own age. This doesn't mean that you know everything though! I think I am very good at maths. Because maths interests me, I like doing more work to make me think harder and to challenge myself. I really enjoy coming to Enrich because we get to do different topics than at school. I enjoy mixing with other children who think like me, especially my friend Jacob.

Computer tessellations

These are my tessellations that I did at the computer. The main shape that I have used is triangles and squares. I had to make sure that they didn't overlap or have any gaps.

Still life painting

This is my still life painting. When I painted this I was learning to show the shade by painting darker colours for the shade, I also learnt to mix colours.

Tessellations

Tessellations is art combined with maths. You begin a tessellation with four squares. You can draw any kind of shape inside or around the beginning four squares. Your shapes must be the same thing that repeats, fits together with no gaps and no overlaps.

Multiple Intelligences

There are 8 multiple intelligences. They are kinaesthetic (body), linguistic (words), logical (mathemathics), interpersonal (people), intrapersonal (myself), musical, visual spatial (pictures), naturalistic.

This survey tells me what my strengths are. I know that I am strong in intrapersonal.
